Katharina Stone

St. Kathrein am Hauenstein

The Katharina Stone is a legendary place in honor of the parish patron saint St. Katharina in St. Kathrein am Hauestein.

According to legend, the footprint of St. Catherine, the patron saint of St. Kathrein am Hauenstein, is depicted in this stone. She left her place at the high altar in 1529 and stood here, on the mountainside, on two stones, with a sword in her hand and a radiant wreath of light around her head to confront the Turks. The Turks then withdrew and the stone filled with healing water.

This water, which lies in the hollow all year round, is said to have healing powers that help against warts, shivering and itchy skin. For extra strength, one should stand on the stone with legs apart and arms raised.
