Weizer Almenland cycle tour
The most beautiful route from the district town of Weiz up to the flower village of St. Kathrein in the Almenland Nature Park - over the Patscha, with great views and plenty of places to stop for refreshments
The district town of Weiz in the Raabtal valley and the flowery village of St. Kathrein am Offenegg in the Almenland: two very contrasting places that are beautifully connected by this trail. Nobody should be put off by the crossing of the Patscha saddle, most of the trail is asphalted and the rest of the route is also easy to manage. And the magnificent views make up for the climbs in any case. After a refreshment stop in St. Kathrein, the best view of the basilica on the Weizberg awaits on the way back.
Due to the altitude difference, the tour is only suitable for e-bike riders or trained cyclists, a mountain bike is NOT necessary!

Route planner to Weiz
Route planner to St. Kathrein am Offenegg (Kathreinerhaus)
Start:
Weiz, Stadthalle/Jufa-Hotel Start:
St. Kathrein am Offenegg/Kathreinerhaus
Marking: "Weizer Almenland cycle tour" throughout
- We start at the large cycle path overview board in front of the town hall and ride out to the right, past the outdoor pool and the Strobl company, to the crossroads before the village of Sturmberg.
- At the crossroads, turn right up into the forest.
- In Naas, continue straight on at the crossroads ("Patscha/Voglhütte")
- The route now climbs steeply up the mountain to Patschabauern, with views back over the quarry to Weiz.
- Shortly before the Voglhütte, turn left onto the farm track and continue in the direction of Patschasattel, the Patscha summit cross is in the forest on the top right, we have reached the highest point of the tour.
- At the large crossroads at Patschasattel, we continue down to the left, past the rest area and through the pasture gate. The path on the right leads up to the summit cross, the path on the left out to the Patscha nose with the famous 3-church view.
- We now follow the meadow path down to Greith. To the left, we can see the Rote Wand, the Hochlantsch, the Osser and the Sommeralm with the windmill. The village in front of us with the church in the center is already St. Kathrein am Offenegg
- .At the next crossroads, we keep left, now comes the most dangerous part of the route, a narrow, rough path.
- We now reach the farms in Greith and are back on the asphalt path.Continue left downhill to "St. Kathrein". If you want to take in another mountain with a hut and a view, turn right up here and cycle (against the "Garden of Eden Tour" markings) up to the Eibisberg and then via the "Zeil" to the village center.
- Immediately in the forest, turn right onto the farm track and continue in the direction of "Sulamith-Garten/St. Kathrein". We are now on the Mühlental hiking trail, soon we see the eponymous mills on the left, the detour down to the restored Winkelbauermühle mill is worthwhile, the large horseshoe dragon by Sascha Exenbberger is also waiting there.
- At the crossroads, we turn left over the small bridge and continue steeply uphill, soon passing the Sulamith Garden.
- At the next crossroads, we turn left into "Zeil". Directly in front of us is the Landhotel Spreitzhofer, the path on the right also leads up to the Graf distillery.
- We ride down the Zeil directly into the center of St. Kathrein am Offenegg. If you want to continue to Brandlucken (only with mountain bikes!!!), turn right immediately after the school/Kathreinerhaus and follow the signs.
- The way back from St. Kathrein leads along the same path (Zeil, Patscha-Sattel) out to Naas = start in St. Kathrein
- The rest of the way back now leads via Lantscha: at the large crossroads (bench) we keep left and continue in the direction of "Harl/Lantscha". We now ride along the mountain ridge.
- We ride through Lantscha-Eben and soon our view extends to the other side of the mountain into the Apfelland with the Kulm.
- We ride down through the villa district of Weiz-Lantscha to the Weizberg, where we already have a wonderful view of the Weizberg basilica on the right.
- Directly behind the basilica (crossroads with a mirror), we turn right into Hueberweg and ride downhill. If you want, you can make a worthwhile detour to the basilica.
- At the next crossroads (with a crossroads), turn right into Lantschaweg and ride along this until you reach the crossroads with Dr. Karl Widdmann-Straße.
- Turn left onto the cycle path and follow it to the Stadthalle, the starting point of the tour.
On the "Zeil", a detour up to the Graf distillery is well worthwhile. The extensive range of regional products in the farm store is tempting to buy!
