The Pöllau Valley Nature Park is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, the garden of Austria, approx. 60 km north-east of Graz and approx. 150 km south of Vienna
By car from Vienna
If you are driving from Vienna to Pöllau bei Hartberg, take the A2 towards Graz and drive about 110 kilometres until you reach the Hartberg exit. From there, follow the B54 in the direction of Pöllau/Pöllauberg.
By car from Graz
To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Graz, take the A2 motorway in the direction of Vienna. After about 30 kilometres, take the Gleisdorf West exit and then take the B54 towards Hartberg/Pöllau. Follow the B54 for about 25 kilometres until you reach Pöllau/Pöllauberg.
By car from Salzburg
To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Salzburg, take the A1 motorway towards Vienna. Drive about 110 kilometres to exit 109 (Salzburg junction). There change to the A9 motorway in the direction of Graz. At St. Michael, follow the S6 towards Kapfenberg. Continue on the S6 until the Krieglach exit. From there, take the B72 and then the L405 to Pöllau/Pöllauberg.
- Starting from the Hotel Muhr, we walk along the access road and follow the "white-red-white, no. 5" markings in the direction of Pöllau.
- We come to a crossroads and cross the road, continuing straight ahead. At an old farmhouse, we have to pass between the Leit'n and the residential building, cross a meadow and reach the Zeil property no. 38 vulgo "Hiasl in der Staudn".
- Then we follow the forest path through the forest relatively steeply downhill, keep right briefly on the tarmac road and descend steeply at the farmhouse, initially through the forest and later along a field path to the fork near the Kohl sawmill, where we meet path no. 11.
- The meadow path leads us in a southerly direction to Pöllau. We also cross the Prätisbach stream via a footbridge and after a short section of forest we reach the flood retention basin.
- Following the course of the stream along the Roseggerweg, we see the Fandler oil mill on the other side of the stream before we pass a housing estate and the Hirt joinery and reach the L406 main road.
- First parallel to the main road and then crossing it, a footpath leads us to the car park at the adventure pool next to the Pöllauer Safenbach.
- Cross the bridge to reach the Aupark and then the centre of Pöllau with its large former monastery complex.
Pöllau - Safenberg - Höhenweg - Hotel Muhr
- Via the Aupark we reach the L406 road again, cross it and follow the pavement and the municipal road to the Hirt carpentry workshop, where we turn right ("Höhenweg Leherkogel, Waldhof Muhr", white-red-white markings, no. 5).
- After a short but steep ascent, we reach the provincial road L 431 - which leads to Pöllauberg - via the municipal road (Safenberg).
- After about 100 metres uphill on the main road, we turn left again onto the Zeiler municipal road and follow the signs to the Wohlmuther family's house.
- After another short climb through the forest, we reach the "Just-Höhe". Past the weather cross, across meadows and forests, the so-called "Höhenweg" leads us to the "Panoramablick Pöllauberg" landmark, where we now follow the signposts towards Hotel Muhr and return to the starting point.
