Winter hiking via Pöllau and Pöllauberg , RETTER Pöllauberg

Leisurely winter hike in the Pöllau Valley Nature Park from the RETTER Bio-Natur-Resort via the Hirschbirnwanderweg trail to Pöllau, Pöllauberg and ending at the RETTER BioGut.
Die sanften Hügel rund um das RETTER Bio-Natur-Resort und die milden Winter der Region, laden Liebhaber von gemäßigten Wintersportarten zum Winterwandern ein. Diese Halbtagesrunde ist eine mittelschwere Tour, die entlang der Naturschönheiten des Naturparks führt.

Besonders reizvoll sind der Besuch der Geschäfte und Cafés im historischen Ortskern von Pöllau sowie die Pfarrkirche Pöllau - liebevoll als „Steirischer Petersdom“ bezeichnet.

Nach dem Anstieg auf den Pöllauberg offenbart sich uns ein herrlicher Ausblick über das Oststeirische Hügelland. Der Platz vor der hochgotischen Wallfahrtskirche Maria Pöllauberg wird darum auch die Sonnen- und Aussichtsterrasse der Oststeiermark genannt.

Zum Abschluss der Rundwanderung kann noch Köstliches für zu Hause im RETTER BioGut eingekauft werden.

Pöllauberg, Hotel Retter

The Pöllau Valley Nature Park is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, the garden of Austria, approx. 60 km north-east of Graz and approx. 150 km south of Vienna

By car from Vienna

If you are driving from Vienna to Pöllau bei Hartberg, take the A2 towards Graz and drive about 110 kilometres until you reach the Hartberg exit. From there, follow the B54 in the direction of Pöllau.

By car from Graz

To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Graz, take the A2 motorway in the direction of Vienna. After about 30 kilometres, take the Gleisdorf West exit and then take the B54 towards Hartberg/Pöllau. Follow the B54 for about 25 kilometres until you reach Pöllau.

By car from Salzburg

To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Salzburg, take the A1 motorway towards Vienna. Drive about 110 kilometres to exit 109 (Salzburg junction). There change to the A9 motorway in the direction of Graz. At St. Michael, follow the S6 towards Kapfenberg. Continue on the S6 until the Krieglach exit. From there, take the B72 and then the L405 to Pöllau.

RETTER - Pöllau
  • From Hotel RETTER, we walk in a southerly direction along the asphalt path and follow the signs for the Hirschbirnwanderweg trail until we pass the Schlagbauer farm, vulgo "Tel".
  • Turning left at the road junction, we come to trail no. 8 (white-red-white), which we follow to Gasthof Kerschhofer. We choose the descent to Pöllau via the mountain forest directly in front of Gasthof Kerschhofer and walk past the P&R parking lot with the sausage stand over the pedestrian bridge past JUFA Pöllau towards the town center.

Pöllau - Pöllauberg

  • From the Schlosspark (signpost "Hirschbirnwanderweg" next to the Parkcafe), head east past the former Augustinian canons' monastery and today's castle and parish church (SAM stop Schlosszwinger: HF 5943) via Schmiedgasse to the traffic circle, the entrance to Pöllau-Mitte.
  • We follow the red-white-red markings no. 942 or the green signs "Hirschbirnweg" and "Wallfahrerweg Pöllauberg" north of the Raiffeisenbank over the Kalvarienberg to the pilgrimage church on the Pöllauberg.

Pöllauberg - RETTER

  • We cross the main square (SAM stop Pöllauberg Ort: HF 5809), meet the "Hirschbirnweg" sign in front of the elementary school and pass the oil cross.
  • Continue following the signs to the Haubenwaller wine tavern, via which we reach our starting point, the RETTER (SAM stop: HF 5805).

SAM - the shared cab service in Eastern Styria - can be reached on +43 50 363738 (waiting time approx. 1 hour).

In the Pöllauberg pilgrimage church, we also go behind the altar. People say that wishes made here come true.
