From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Semmering or the high-altitude health resort of Fischbach to the edge of the Pannonian plain near Köszeg, a trail full of variety and attractions of nature leads: alpannonia®. It is also possible to start the alpannonia trail, as in this case, in Vorau or Mönichwald and hike from there to the 1743 m high Hochwechsel. From there, the main trail continues to Mönichkirchen, Hochneukirchen, Bernstein, Oberkohlstätten and finally to the destination, Köszeg.

This tour starts at the only still active Augustinian canons' monastery in Styria in Vorau, with its impressive library and sacristy. Then it continues over the gently rolling countryside of Joglland to Mönichwald, which also lies on the Styrian Flower Road. By the way: Both Vorau Abbey and the municipality of Mönichwald are celebrating their 850th anniversary this year, in 2013.

Further information on arrival: Stift, Vorau

We start at the canons' monastery in Vorau and walk through the market
Afterwards we leave Vorau and go to the neighboring village Riegersberg
After about 3 hours walking time we reach the village Mönichwald
Afterwards we follow the hiking trail 07, until we reach the inn Schwengerer
Via the Mönichwalder Schwaig and the Brennerwald we hike to the Kaltwiesen hut
Now we come to the last ascent
After 3.5 hours we have reached the Wetterkoglerhaus on the Hochwechsel.

Vorau is arguably the cultural center of Joglland - visit the unique Augustinian canons' monastery, the open-air museum or embark on a journey through the underground passages Sub Terra Vorau!
