About the region
Schäffern is well connected to the transport network, as the A2 highway from Vienna to Graz runs through the municipality. The municipality is predominantly agricultural and is one of the largest farming communities in the district. Away from the hustle and bustle, Schäffern is a quiet village and an insider tip for connoisseurs.
The historic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, built in the 12th century, bears witness to the village's long history. Although Bärnegg Castle near Elsenau is now ruined except for one tower, it remains an impressive relic of the past. In addition, part of the picturesque Willersdorf Gorge in the border triangle is located on Schäffern municipal territory, which makes the region interesting for nature lovers.
