In the footsteps of pilgrims in the Raab Valley - the Unterfladnitz Way of the Cross
The pilgrimage church of Breitegg is located about 2 km outside of St. Ruprecht an der Raab on Calvary Hill, which extends to the north of the market. A wooden tower was replaced by a wooden prayer house at the present location of the church in the 18th century. Today's church "Zum Gegeißelten Heiland" was built on this site from 1845 to 1850. The three-bay building with a vestibule, semi-circular apse and double-towered façade was built in historical forms by master mason Jakob Gauster from Dörfl. The nearby church on the Weizberg served as a model for the towers. The church was consecrated in 1853. The painting of the church was completed in 1890 with historical decorative elements on the pilasters and ceiling as well as with pictures referring to the Passion of Christ on the vault, rear wall and ceiling. The chapel in the vestibule houses a plastic replica of the Mariahilf image of grace from Graz. Today, the church is also popular for devotions.
