The comedy with black humour is based on the play "Poland is not yet lost" by Melchior Lengyel.

It is about a Warsaw theatre company that wants to outwit the German Nazi occupiers.

Warsaw shortly before the Second World War: the ensemble of the Polski Theatre, including the famous actor couple Josef and Maria Tura, are forced to perform Hamlet after an anti-fascist play is banned. While Josef delivers the monologue on stage, Maria meets the young bomber pilot Sobinsky backstage. The affair ends abruptly when the German invasion begins and the theatre closes. Months later, Sobinsky secretly returns to Warsaw to intercept a Gestapo spy. The actors trust in their abilities and set a trap for the spy. Soon it is literally a case of to be or not to be....
