Wine tour: From the castle to the wine

Wine walk on the Kehlberg in Graz with breathtaking views through the historic vineyards in Graz-Straßgang.

It was not uncommon in the 19th century - wine from Graz. The Kehlberg around St. Martin's Castle was a popular excursion destination with numerous wine taverns serving their own wine. When the last Buschenschank closed its doors in 1967, viticulture in Graz also became very quiet. In 2013, Hannes Sabathi, a winemaker from southern Styria, revived this old tradition, planted the historic vineyards and has since been pressing the Graz city wine FALTER EGO.

You can find out why the Grazer Stadtwein is so named, along with numerous other (also) historical delicacies, during a guided wine walk in the new Graz vineyards with a wonderful view of Graz. Interesting and exciting facts about winegrowing are also on the programme, as is the subsequent tasting of Graz city wines in the atmospheric ambience of St. Martin's Castle.
