The Werlitsch winery is located in the picturesque border region between southern Styria and Slovenia. The vineyards, which are partly flat and partly steep over the hills, offer ideal conditions for perfectly matching the soil type to the respective grape varieties. At the Werlitsch winery, biodynamic cultivation is practiced with the utmost care in order to produce wine sustainably and in harmony with nature.
The winery is run by Ewald and Brigitte Tscheppe, who cultivate exclusively white wine vines on their 9 hectares. The vines are on average 25 years old and are mainly vinified as a cuvée in order to perfectly combine the diversity and character of the site. The wines are matured in wooden barrels for at least two years before bottling, which gives them a special depth and structure. Since the 2010 vintage, single-varietal wines such as Morillon vom Opok and Sauvignon Blanc vom Opok have also been available. There is also a particularly unusual wine: a wine fermented entirely on the skins, which is called “orange white wine” due to its unique play of colors.
