Skoff Original - A life for wine "Wine is life, our life is wine." This sentence reflects what has always characterized the Skoff family. The variety of different vineyards with a wide range of terroirs, which the winery has at its disposal, is unique in this form in Styria. This is how wines with personality and of international standing are created at Gamlitzer Eckberg.
Gamlitz 2020 Walter Skoff is without a doubt one of the greats of the domestic white wine scene. Together with his wife Eva Liebau, who is in demand as a soprano at opera houses around the world, he runs his SKOFF ORIGINAL winery on the Gamlitzer Eckberg in southern Styria. His two young sons, Walter and Franz-Johann, and daughter Emma-Rosina, are waiting in the wings to one day determine the future of the successful winery.
With love for the craft The grand seigneur of wine knows his craft, it is his passion for viticulture that drives him day after day - be it when a new site is to be planted with great meticulousness and love, or when it is a matter of aligning the work in the vineyard exactly with the pulse of nature in the cycle of the year. Just like his feeling for the soil, the climate and his enormous expertise, he is also supported by his team: longstanding employees who have wine in their blood at least as much as the boss himself. Not only traditional and proven ways are followed, but also innovative approaches from aging in granite barrels to organic vinification have their place.
World champion success The wines of the house not only flatter the palate, but also cause a sensation in international circles of experts. In the past 30 years, the masterpieces of the house have received numerous awards. In 2017, the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon Blanc, one of the most important white wine competitions in the world, was a preliminary highlight of the medal round. Among 867 internationally submitted wines, Walter Skoff's Sauvignon Blanc Kranachberg (2015 vintage) was awarded the "Denis Dubourdieu Trophy". This is awarded to the wine with the purest and most refined Sauvignon character and is considered the world champion title of the scene.
Passion Sauvignon Blanc Walter Skoff's love of viticulture is omnipresent and becomes a passion for one variety in particular: Sauvignon Blanc. It is not for nothing that he is respectfully referred to as Mr. Sauvignon in professional circles. With flair and perfect harmony with nature, the winemaker manages to bring out the characteristics of this variety in seemingly endless facets like no other - of course without compromising the authenticity of the grape variety. To do this, he draws on the full range. The 13 sites, including famous names such as Grassnitzberg, Kranachberg, Obegg and Hochsulz, each offer a unique style - a paradise of taste nuances.
