Südsteiermark
Stainz
The Erzherzog-Johann-Markt Stainz, situated at the foot of the former Augustinian canons' monastery, has always been a centre for art, culture, wine and culinary delights and remains a popular starting point for extensive cycling and hiking tours in the picturesque surroundings.
What guests can look forward to
About the region
From fertile plains with maize, wheat and pumpkin fields, over the characteristically steep Schilcher vineyards, gurgling brooks and refreshing springs up to the secluded forests of Reinisch- and Rosenkogel at the foothills of the Koralm massif. A landscape that could not be more lovely and varied. This is also reflected in the people and the irresistible delicacies from the kitchen and cellar. Freely adapted from Reinhard P. Gruber: "The heart of the West Styrian is an explosion engine whose connecting rod is oiled by the pumpkin. The blood of the West Styrian is drinkable. It is called Schilcher."
The culture of life is unique, but so is the nature on offer. Whether on the leisurely circular hiking trails where wine taverns invite you to stop for a bite to eat or on the cycle paths that - nomen est omen - are called the Schilcher Tour or the Weinland Steiermark Cycle Tour.
