Mon., 03/03/2025 from 08:00 o'clock
Men dressed in spotless white night robes and sleeping hoods introduce their performance on Mardi Gras Monday with deafening noise on large drums and other "instruments."
At 08:00 the parade of the Ausseer Bürgertrommelweiber starts through the center of Bad Aussee.
These are men dressed in women's nightdresses of past centuries, who want to drive the winter out of the village with drums and trumpets. In earlier times it was believed that forces of nature, such as winter, could be chased away with noise. The drum women parade through the village on Shrove Monday to the tune of the "Ausseer Faschingmarsch" (Shrove March of Aussee). This tune is carried by a rhythm that can be heard in every corner of Ausseerland during the three "holy" days of Shrove Tuesday. The drum women wear masks so that they are not recognized by the demons they want to drive away and so that these demons cannot take revenge on them.
