Konrad Deubler was a miller and innkeeper and offended both confessions because, although he was not an outspoken atheist, he was a pantheist. He was sentenced to imprisonment and banishment for alleged "religious disorder" and for propagating the US version of the faith.
His circle of friends included Ludwig Feuerbach and Ernst Haeckel.
