The historian, philosopher and writer Philipp Blom, born in Hamburg in 1970, studied history and Jewish studies in Vienna and Oxford.
He now lives as a writer and historian in Vienna. In addition to his historical and literary works, he is also a jounalist, hosts the program "Punkt eins" on the Austrian cult station Ö1 and makes films such as the multi-award-winning documentary series "Der taumelnde Kontinent".
Against the backdrop of current upheavals such as global warming and digitalization, he is increasingly turning his attention to present and future issues. In 2018, Blom gave the opening speech at the Salzburg Festival.
From 2024, Philipp Blom will be the director of the Dachstein Dialogues. Markus Kupferblum talks to him about the social and political changes in our world. What role can enlightenment still play in times of darkness? An attempt at encouragement.
