The Reiterer Trommelweiber start at Marion's Dorfladen for their parade through the district Reitern
Men dressed in spotless white nightdresses and sleeping hoods introduce their performance on Mardi Gras Sunday with a deafening noise on large drums and other "instruments".
Men in women's nightdresses of past centuries want to drive the winter out of the village with drums and trumpets. In earlier times, it was believed that forces of nature, such as winter, could be chased away with noise. The Reiterer Trommelweiber parade through the village of Reitern on Shrove Sunday to the tune of the "Ausseer Faschingmarsch", a melody carried by a rhythm that can be heard in all corners of Ausseerland during the three "holy" days of Shrove Tuesday.
