Every year on December 5, the silence of the winter night in Tauplitz is interrupted by the ringing of bells and the cracking of "Goassln" (whips), dark figures parade through the darkness, it is Miglotog (St. Nicholas Day) as it is called in the small mountain village.
Every year St. Nicholas, the bishop, with his light and dark entourage, moves from the village of Klachau to the center of the village (village square), where the traditional St. Nicholas play is performed twice.

About 60 masked people are involved in this spectacle. The Krampus masks, lovingly crafted by local carvers, have human facial features. It is called a parlor or social game.
The Tauplitz play is one of the oldest in the country. Men wrapped in straw "the Schab" walk ahead, announcing the Nikolozug with their loud banging. An impressive picture offers the holy Nikolaus, who rides in Tauplitz on the horse (Nikoloroß) to the waiting children. The everyman scene in the Tauplitz St. Nicholas play is also a popular performance, as a rather ragged man, marked by alcohol, asks the priest to hear his confession. A special feature is the variety of different play scenes and characters. Cobbler and tailor (prelude) open and Prince of Hell Lucifer with his dark companions end this unique folk play.
