More information
By car, you can get to the Tauplitzalm from Bad Mitterndorf via the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (toll).
Right at the start is the mysterious Krallersee, a dark, shimmering moorland lake at the foot of the Lawinenstein. The route continues to the Großsee, which lies below the Schneiderkogel, and the picturesque Märchensee. These three mountain lakes give the route a special charm.
To the east, the hiking trail leads to Lake Tauplitzsee. Shortly before the Steirersee, it is worth making a detour to the famous “Steirerseebankerl”. From here, there is a magnificent view of the imposing Sturzhahn and the deep blue Steirersee. The Sturzhahn was once one of the favorite climbing mountains of the famous alpinist Heinrich Harrer.
After a short rest, the route continues past the Steirerseehütten huts. The Steirersee can be circumnavigated either on the south or north shore - however, surefootedness is required on the north shore. The last lake on the route is the Schwarzensee.
The hiking route leads back to the starting point either via idyllic meadow paths or via the asphalted plateau road.
Alternative routes & family-friendliness
The entire 6-lake hike does not have to be hiked in its entirety - the route can be shortened individually at several points. Thanks to the well-maintained plateau road, shorter family hikes in Ausseerland are also possible with baby carriages or for wheelchair users.
