Gösser & Sattelberge-Runde, Dürntal/Weiz

The Gösserwand above the Raabklamm gorge is part of the Sattelberge mountains, which connect Weiz with the Almenland Nature Park. A hike with magnificent views in Eastern Styria.
The Sattelberge are a karstified mountain ridge up to 1,088 m high on the edge of the Grazer Bergland. The karstification has formed several caves, including the Grasslhöhle and the Katerloch on the southern slope. Before the Weizklamm road was built in 1877, the crossing over the Wachthaussattel was the most important connection from Passail to Weiz. A small chapel still marks the Wachthaussattel. Today there are several small mountain pastures on the Sattelberge, but they are only used for farming. Several hiking trails lead up here from Dürntal/Weiz and Passail, the only inn, a working alpine dairy, had to close in the middle of the 20th century due to a lack of water.

The easy path up to the Sattelberge is supplemented by the rather rough "Gösserringerl", which leads out onto the almost vertically sloping Gösserwand and requires surefootedness. However, the view from there is brilliant and extends far beyond Weiz and the Schöckl.

An easy trail, except for the "Gösserringerl", which requires surefootedness and a head for heights, but can be bypassed.
