Lake Ödensee is the heart of the Pichl-Kainisch region and a true nature experience in Ausseerland. This hike leads through a pristine lake and river landscape, which delights with its fascinating variety of plant and animal species.
Along the way, various adventure stations such as the Kainisch fish farm, the Riedlbach oxbow lake, the raised bog, the peat cutting, the Strumern karst springs as well as topics on geology, flowers, forest and water provide exciting insights into nature.
The unspoiled surroundings make this hiking area an Eldorado for botanists, biologists and nature lovers.
The hike starts just before the Stieger snack station at a small parking lot in the village of Mühlreith, the trail leads along the green signposts over a wooden footbridge and on through the picturesque forest terrain to the karst springs, which only carry water when there is high or melting water. In dry periods, they can be recognized by mossy stones in the riverbed.
The marked hiking trail continues through the forest, crossing other paths several times along the way, until you finally reach Lake Ödensee. The route now leads clockwise around the lake, past idyllic resting places, to the popular Kohlröserlhütte hut, which invites you to take a leisurely break.
After the rest stop, the hike continues along the cold and warm lake to Kainisch. After crossing the bridge, the trail follows an asphalt road, where it turns right along the cycle path next to the railroad tracks back to the starting point.
