Family friendly hike to the Lawinenstein on the Tauplitzalm

The Tauplitzalm boasts an impressive 360-degree panorama of countless mountain peaks in Ausseerland and Salzkammergut. The best vantage point is the Lawinenstein, which rises like a balcony above the region and offers spectacular views. This family-friendly hike is ideal for hiking with children in Styria, as it offers a great nature experience with little effort. Apart from a 200-metre ascent, the trail is easy to manage.

You can either start at the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm or at the mountain station of the 4-seater chairlift. The route heads west. Below the Hollhaus is the valley station of the chairlift to the Lawinenstein. From there, trail no. 274 runs gently along a sparse mountain pine and larch forest. The trail continues below the chairlift up a slope to the mountain station at 1,885 meters above sea level.

From here, the trail leads over a broad ridge, initially descending slightly, then ascending again to the left to the highest point of the Lawinenstein at 1,965 meters. The summit is a flat plateau and offers a breathtaking panorama: the mighty Grimming, the glaciated Dachstein massif, the rugged rock faces of the Totes Gebirge, the Niedere Tauern and the glistening Grundlsee lake lie impressively before you. The view of the most beautiful lake plateau of the Tauplitzalm is particularly impressive.
