More information

The journey to Tauplitz is best planned with google.at/maps. From there you can take the 4-seater chairlift to the high plateau.

By car, you can get to the Tauplitzalm from Bad Mitterndorf via the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (toll).

The hike is started at the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm or at the mountain station of the 4-seater chairlift. You hike leisurely across the lake plateau of the Tauplitzalm - the largest in Central Europe, by the way. Near the mountain station is the mountain church. A visit to the church is always worthwhile.

On soft alpine meadows the hike continues towards the Steirersee. A short detour to the Steirersee-Bankerl is recommended. From there you have a great view of the Sturzhahn and the Steirersee.

The hike continues, depending on your preference, on the north or south side of the Steirersee. (surefootedness required!)

After the Steirersee you come to the Schwarzensee. From there the trail continues towards Leistalm and Interhütten. Down you go into the Nattern Graben and out of the valley along the idyllic Grimmingbach towards the Gnanitzalm.

After a refreshment in one of the two huts in the Gnanitzalm, you follow the gravel road and then the asphalt road to Tauplitz.

The 4-seater chairlift is open from the end of June to the beginning of September.

In summer the bus stops directly at the valley station. The 4-seater chairlift can be reached from Tauplitz train station in about 20 minutes on foot.

There are plenty of free parking spaces available.
