Via the Schladminger Alm to 2 Peaks: the Spateck and Schusterstuhl

Beautiful hike from Sattental Valley to the rustic Schladminger Alm, and a rather exposed ridge hike to the summit of the Spateck – elev. 2,256 m.

From the Leonhard cross in Sattental, a forestry path leads us across once forested hillsides (now devoid of trees because of recent storms, though on the up-side, now a lot more scenic) up to the Schladminger Alm. It takes us about 1¼ hours to reach the traditional Schlierf Hütte, where we will receive a warm reception and great service. Xandi, their sow, loves the attention and is very much part of the hut family.  The subsequent hike up to the Schladminger Törl takes us closer and closer to the rocky ridgeline, which we follow to the top of the Spateck.  It’s a big advantage if you are sure on your feet and comfortable with heights!  We’ll take the same route back.Variant for those with a nose for trails: It is not much further from the Spateck to the Schusterstuhl – the views of both valleys are magnificent, while the descent from the Schusterstuhl to the Schneetalalm is not difficult.  The small trail is hard to make out.   We continue our hike down until we reach a path which runs from the Schladminger Alm to the Schneetalalm, where we make a right, taking us towards the mouth of the valley along a romantic country pathway, until we finally reach the Schladminger Alm.

Safety information

Safety on the mountainside: changes in the weather, sudden fall in temperature, thunder storms, wind, fog and snow fields are all objective dangers and require the correct behaviour whilst underway. the landlords of the huts are all very knowledgeable about the mountains and can give you good tips about the weather and the routes. Insufficient equipment, exaggerated opinion of ones capabilities, frivolousness, poor health condition and a false evaluation of the situation can lead to a critical situation. In thunder storms: summits, crest-sites and safety rope aids are to be avoided.
