Closed
Impressive panoramic views and famous mountain peaks within reach: this tour rewards with countless beautiful moments in clear weather.
On this tour, you are rewarded with an impressive 360-degree panorama. To the north, the rugged limestone peaks of the Tote Gebirge are close enough to touch; to the south, the mighty Grimming towers over the Ennstal valley. The famous Dachstein massif peeks out from behind and the peaks of the Niedere Tauern also stand out very well on the far horizon on this tour.

More information

The journey to Tauplitz is best planned with google.at/maps. From here you can take the 4-seater chairlift to the high plateau.

By car, you can get to the Tauplitzalm from Bad Mitterndorf via the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (toll).

Start from the top station of the 4-seater chairlift or from the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm across the high plateau in an easterly direction.Near the top station of the 4-seater chairlift is a small mountain church.

Shortly after the Grazerhütte - by the way, mountaineering icon Heinrich Harrer worked here as a hut warden in the 1930s - you already reach the ascent to the summit of the Traweng.

The path with the number 72 is narrow, soon very steep, but well marked. In a scree gully you should use your hands as a hiking aid. After about half an hour - passing a small cave - you reach the flatter part of the climb. We recommend taking the circular route. Boulders, karst surfaces and sinkholes accompany you on the way to the top.

The panorama is overwhelming and that is not an exaggeration: Totes Gebirge, Grimming, Dachstein and the Niedere Tauern - all in front of your nose!

The descent from Traweng is via the same path.

A detour to the Steirerseebankerl is always worthwhile! You will be rewarded with a fantastic view to the Sturzhahn and Steirersee.

From Tauplitz train station to the valley station of the 4-seater chairlift is about 20 minutes walk.A bus stop is located directly at the valley station.

There are plenty of free parking spaces at the valley station of the 4-seater chairlift in Tauplitz and at the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm.
