What makes the ERZBERG LEOBEN region a popular destination for cyclists? Quite obviously, the diverse range of different cycling routes. Choosing from a wide variety of adventorous to challenging routes, everyone from beginners to experienced riders are bound to find their personal favourite.

ERZBERG LEOBEN for mountain and gravel bikers

Numerous mountain bike routes await in the adventure and sport region ERZBERG LEOBEN. A classic route is the tour onto Mugel. On the trail, about 1,000 metres of elevation gain and several steep forest passages have to be mastered along with a distance of 15.5 kilometres. After about three hours of riding, mountain bikers reach their destination and are rewarded with magnificent scenic views of the city of Leoben and the Mürztal valley. Other challenging routes lead to Hohe Rötz or Hirnalm.

Sporty families can opt for route "Seeau4family" at Leopoldsteinersee. The trail runs along the lakeshore up to the game reserve. The seven-kilometre route is easy to master and ideally suited for families.

Stages four and five of the popular Mur cycle path, one of the most beautiful river cycle paths in Austria, lead through the ERZBERG LEOBEN region. The city of Leoben is the perfect location for a break or even a longer stay.

Especially the main square in the heart of the city invites you to visit one of the charming restaurant patios and fuel up for the coming stage. Numerous inns also offer special cycling services, and the local bike shops are happy to help in case your bike needs repair.

Rastlandweg R15: from one river cycle path to the next

Rastlandweg connects the two cycle paths along the rivers Enns and Mur. It leads from Selzthal through the Paltental and Liesingtal valleys. For the most part, cyclists ride on side roads and designated cycle paths, as well as through village centres.

The way up to Wald am Schoberpass is somewhat hilly and quite challenging. Once you’ve completed this section, you’ll be going slightly downhill from there until you reach St. Michael in Upper Styria.

Why choose between cycling and hiking when both sports can be combined? In ERZBERG LEOBEN, there are numerous Bike&Hike tours where you can cycle the first part of the route before continuing on foot.
