From the Sperl Nature Park Farm to the stone castle

The hike leads along meadows and forests to the highest ruin in Styria - the stone castle.
The hike is an insider tip for nature and culture lovers. The path is very varied, leads over flowering mountain meadows through larch and spruce forests, past fountains and to the stone castle. There you can stop off at the rustic Steinschloss hut and visit the Steinschloss ruins. Views of the Murtal, the Karawanken and the Niedere and Hohe Tauern are guaranteed if the visibility is good. On the way back you will find numerous plants that are protected, such as the forest bird, fire lilies and orchid.

More information

Coming from Teufenbach at Mariahof-St. Pass Lambrecht, turn left over the railway crossing after approx. 200 m towards Adendorf, after approx. 300 m turn left towards Adelsberg. The Sperl farm is after 900 m on the right-hand side.

Coming from Neumarkt towards Mariahof you will see the Mariahof parish church on the right. At the next junction turn right towards Adendorf, after approx. 500 m straight ahead towards Adelsberg. The Sperl farm is after 900 m on the right-hand side.

From the Sperl farm follow path no. 38 north. After a meadow you come to a passage and then leave the official hiking trail, go straight ahead - steeply uphill - about 150 m to a forest path. Here follow the path uphill to the right - through two gates (please close them!) to a spruce/larch forest. At the bench you can enjoy the view of the stone castle. Continuing along the path, you come to hiking trail no. 35 towards Steinschloss.

On the way back, stick to hiking trail no. 35 until you reach the first Eugen farm, cf. Pirker, where you follow hiking trail no. 38 left towards Adelsberg/Adendorf. After a walk you pass a fountain and walk past an alpine hut. Here you can enjoy the view of Murtal. Following the path downhill, you can see a 500-year-old linden tree on the right, with a tree circumference of approx. 6 m. After the alpine pasture and the fish pond, the path continues to Adelsberg to the Sperl farm.
