A special tip
Cross-country bliss in the Mürzer Oberland region
While in summer it’s popular with cyclists, in winter the Mürz Valley cycle path belongs to the cross-country skiers. The picturesque trail is perfect for classic cross-country skiing as well as skating and invites you to enjoy the wintry landscape all throughout the season.
Are you looking for a shorter trail? Then Försterwiesen trail might be just the thing for you! (Starting point: former Gasthaus Ulm/Weber, at the crossroads from Kapellen to Altenberg.) It only takes about 15 minutes to complete the entire trail. The best thing about it: This great cross-country trail is suitable for everyone, from beginners to advanced skiers, whether you’re young or young-at-heart, with your family or on your own.
A tip for coffee lovers: At Kaffeerösterei Jahrmann at the old train station of Kapellen, barista Johann Jahrmann serves delicious coffee specialities accompanied by desserts or Tarte Flambee. Both cross-country trails pass by this special snack bar.
Another secret tip: If you’re looking for a more peaceful winter route, we recommend the ten-kilometre trail that starts in the centre of Mürzsteg – right behind Kinderhotel Appelhof. The trail is sunny, snow-sure and … gloriously peaceful. For refreshments and snacks, stop by Kinderhotel Appelhof before or after your tour.
