The Schutzhaus am Rennfeld is located in the west of the Fischbacher Alps. Due to its location at 1,629 meters, an impressive panorama opens up from the east Styrian hill country to the Tauern. You can also see from the Gesäuse mountains to the Semmering. A look into the glacier world of the Hohe Tauern.
Just below this panoramic summit, there is also a hospitable hut, the Kernstock mountain shelter, also with a panoramic terrace.
Since 2021 there is a public car park with parking machines on the Pischkalm at 1200m above sea level. The parking fee for the day ticket, only cash, is 3,- From this parking lot the hut can be reached in a little more than 1 hour. Ideal for children and the elderly. 2 chefs provide roast pork and goulash, as well as vegetarian and vegan options.But also birthday & family parties with overnight stay are very popular with prior reservation, because there are both 2 bed rooms and cheap mattress storage.The hut was rebuilt in 1950 after a fire (the first Ottokar corestock house was opened in 1911) and offers room storage/beds and a mattress storage for 12 people to stay overnight. There is also a shower.
