Gasthaus Radwirt

St. Barbara im Mürztal

Traditional inn at the foot of the Hohe Veitsch

Gasthaus Radwirt, at the foot of the Hohe Veitsch is an old, traditional inn. Even Peter Rosegger described in one of his books a respite from cycling. Toni Schruf also entered the guestbook of the inn around 1900.

The building of the inn was exhibited at the 1873 World's Fair in Vienna as the first demountable prefabricated house of its kind, offered for sale and acquired by Count Hardegg. The house was dismantled at the site of the World’s Fair, taken by horse-drawn carriages to Vienna’s South Railway Station, transported by the then “new” Semmeringbahn to Mitterdorf, brought back by horse-drawn carriages to Veitsch and built at the present location. The inn is almost authentically preserved in its construction and interior design. At that time the house was used as a hunting lodge and it was only when the Windhaber family acquired the building in 1936 that it was converted into an inn.

Since 2007 the inn has been protected as a monument and Gertrude Vidanic continues the inn in the sense of the old known “Maridl Spitzer”. At the beginning of November we always have our game days, every first Sunday of the month we have a Styrian buffet with various delicacies. We look forward to your visit.

Capacity for up to 100 people.

No rest day, for groups by appointment.
