Thörl Castle is located between Kapfenberg and Mariazell. Once a road block known as “Toer / Törlein in der Aynoed” (documented in 1345), it served as a headquarters for various trades in the centuries that followed.
In 1980 the entire structure was comprehensively revitalized. The Barbara Chapel was also completely restored in 2009. Today the castle is used for residential and representative purposes and can also be booked for events.
The castle complex was in the 14th century. erected as a roadblock. The street originally led through the barrel-vaulted passage hall, the "Törl", over whose round arch there is a baroque fresco.
The castle chapel is dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners. It is available to guests for suitable occasions (weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, soul masses). Concerts, readings and celebrations have been held in the castle chapel for many years. With seats for up to 100 people, it offers the perfect setting for these events.
