More information

from Admont: at the Ennsbrücke roundabout, take the Altenmarkt exit and drive approx. 8 km up the Buchauer Sattel, turn left at the top of the pass, parking after 100 m

of St. Gallen: Drive towards Admont for about 12 km on the Buchauer Sattel, turn right at the top of the pass, parking after 100 m

We start at the Buchauer Sattel and hike on a meadow path, then on a forest path and a hollow path until we meet a forest road. Soon we reach the basic border, where the area of the Grabnerhof Agricultural College begins. From here on, at regular intervals, you will come across information boards depicting past and present alpine pasture farming. This is an entertaining way to get to the Grabneralm Haus. When we are already tired, hungry and thirsty from the 1 1/2 hour hike, we stop for a bite  in the cosy garden or in the parlour.

Then we still have an hour's climb ahead of us. A path winds its way uphill until we finally see the Admonter's house majestically enthroned in the embrasure. We have reached our destination - we might want to spend the night here and then the next morning join the Mittagskogel and Natterriegel (easy hike) or the Hexenturm (only for sure-footed and vertigo-free or via ferrata climbers).

Variant: If you are free from giddiness you can also connect the via ferrata to the Grabnerstein from the Admonterhaus and descend from the summit to the Grabneralm Haus - there we meet our ascent path again.

Also from Hall on trail no. 633 via Johannesbründl in 3 hours and from Oberlaussa, Voerderzwiesel car park, on trail no. 636 via Seeboden in about 3 hours. Summit: Grabnerstein, 1,847 m (Styria's most beautiful flower mountain) via "Jungfernsteig" (A) in about 1 hour. Mittagskogel, 2,041 m, trail nr. 634, about 1.25 hours, on to the Natterriegel, 2,065 m, in 10 minutes Hexenturm (Bärenkarmauer, 2,172 m), normal ascent via Roßkar, Natterriegel - Hexenturm, about 2 hours

Overnight stay on Grabneralm and Admonterhaus (depending on ability) and connect  the summit of Mittagskogel, Natterriegel, Hexenturm or Grabnerstein on the next day.
