Backbone: St. Anna-Tieschen - On the tracks of volcanoes (Rückgrat: St. Anna-Tieschen - On the tracks of volcanoes

Stage 3 takes us through the vineyards from St. Anna to Tieschen and shows us wonderful views and insights into the gently undulating thermal spa and volcanic region of Styria.

Right at the start, our hike takes us through the village of St. Anna am Aigen, past the vinotheque and the parish church. We leave the village and reach the "Brodlsulz" via Klapping, on to Frutten and finally to the lookout point. Over the Rosenberg we reach Größing and our destination is already very close!

Did you know...

...that St. Anna is home to a number of prominent church figures? Among others, Archbishop of Salzburg Franz Lackner.
...that the Wine Trail of the Senses in St. Anna am Aigen took 3rd place in the 9 places 9 treasures? No? Then why not discover this fantastic trail through the vineyards on your next hike? Wine trail of the senses
...that it is bubbling in the municipality of St. Anna? :-) Carbon dioxide escapes from the ground in the "Brodlsulz" and begins to bubble together with the spring.
..that there is a freely accessible mineral water spring for refreshment?
...that the Vulkanland viewing platform is over 40m high and you can see as far as Croatia?

The 3rd stage of the backbone leads us across the viewing terrace at the wine shop onto a meadow, through the vineyard and past the church. We now hike downhill and enjoy the tranquillity along the Pleschbach stream until we reach the Brodlsulz in Klapping. What is that? Carbon dioxide escapes from the depths and begins to “bubble” (bubble). This carbon dioxide is produced from organic material that was buried by lava and ash a long time ago. In a process, this organic material is transformed into peat and coal and carbon dioxide emerges.

We walk along the forest and arrive in Frutten at a freely accessible mineral water fountain with a small rest area. We continue along the road through the village, turn off into the vineyards and walk through a mixed forest to the Vulkanland viewing platform. Here we can observe the wonderful region from above. They say: “If you see something shining on the horizon, it's the sea.”

Our hike now takes us further up the Rosenberg, don't worry - there's no big climb here, we're already high up. Passing wine taverns and wine taverns, we enjoy the fantastic view of Straden before we reach the Steintal valley via the forest. We walk through Größing and reach the Größinger Tanner at the end of the village. Here we see some burial mounds from the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.  Now we are soon at our destination, just along a small road and we have reached our destination of Tieschen!

Enjoy the view from the Vulkanlandwarte and play a game on the Loamkegelbahn!
