Castle Oberkapfenberg to the Rennfeld
Excursion Tips:
A must-see is Burg Oberkapfenberg, where you can visit the fantastic multimedia exhibition "Grenzgänge" - a time travel with knights and alchemists. A real highlight is also the bird of prey flight show at the castle falconry!
Alternatively, relax at the BadeWonne Kapfenberg. The 200 m² large and 32°C warm adventure and wellness pool guarantees an extraordinary water fest with massage jets, whirlpool loungers, waterfall, swing grotto, and fountains. 120 comfortable loungers and a separate relaxation area are available for guests seeking undisturbed relaxation. A 62-meter long indoor/outdoor adventure slide delights especially children and the young at heart. Athletes can dive into the 25-meter sports pool to train their bodies and fitness. After a strenuous workday or training session, guests can unwind in the attached sauna area or in the solarium. A self-service dining option is available at BadeWonne Kapfenberg. The facility also offers accessible access for people with disabilities and attractive, family-friendly entry prices!

More information
From Graz/Vienna: S6 highway exit Kapfenberg.
We drive towards the city center and turn left at the 3rd traffic light (intersection Alpenstadion). Then, we drive over the bridge towards the Sporthotel Kapfenberg. At the Sporthotel, we turn left and continue straight (Viktor-Kaplan-Straße). At the Waldcafe Harrer, we turn right and follow the road towards the castle. We continue on this path for about 10 minutes until we reach Burg Oberkapfenberg.
Kapfenberg is nestled in a beautiful natural landscape. The city has also made a name for itself as an international sports and training hub. Despite all of this, Kapfenberg places great importance on harmony between life and work in an intact environment.
Especially on this hike to a summit with a view, we have a magnificent view of the Mürztal Valley!
From Burg Oberkapfenberg, we hike to the Prieselbauer inn. From there, the marked trail 714 leads us to Frauenberg, with the pilgrimage church of Maria Rehkogel. We then follow the marked trail 715 from the Frauenberg municipal office. At the final stage of this tour, we walk through the increasingly sparse forest to the summit meadow, where we reach the Rennfeld Shelter of the ÖAV Section Bruck an der Mur. This section is known as the "Götterquergang"(God’s Traverse). In winter, we recommend using crampons here, as this rocky trail is often icy, creating a slip hazard.
Before descending, we can visit the summit cross, which stands a little away from the hut, and enjoy the peace and quiet on Rennfeld.
An alternative for the return journey is the hike over the Buchecksattel to the Jagaalm or back to Bruck an der Mur.
