More information
You start the tour of the old town on Bruck's main square directly in front of the town hall. Walk past the Iron Fountain via the so-called Schiffgasse to the Mariahilf Chapel at Hotel Landskron. The tour continues along the Mur, keeping left, to the Europabrücke bridge, which is also known as the ‘Bruck Harp’. Keeping left again, you pass through the former Graz Gate to the Minoritenkirche church and the square of the same name. Continue along Mittergasse and leave it at Burggasse, keeping to the right, to Herzog Ernst Gasse. Walk just a few metres out of town to the Stadtapotheke pharmacy in the direction of the Schlossberg, which you reach via the Schlossbersteig. The striking clock tower, the cannon hut and the Schlossberg plateau lead to the highest and most panoramic point of the city walk. A few steeper steps lead down to Schillerstraße and you soon reach the Kulturhaus, which is already clearly visible and houses the town museum. Via the town park and the parish church, you return to Bruck's main square, which you reach at the Fabriziushaus (beautiful courtyard open to the public). The town hall next door also has a beautiful courtyard, which is also open to the public. And the main square, named after the labour leader Koloman Wallisch, is also the second largest city centre square in Austria.
Bruck an der Mur is one of the most beautiful district towns in Styria. The Gothic Kornmesserhaus, the historic buildings along the Mur such as the Baderhaus (today a place to stop for a bite to eat with excellent cuisine: www.weinerei-baderhaus.at), the Minoritenkirche church or the Schlossberg with its wonderful panoramic view of the town make the hike a cultural and culinary experience. The cafés on the main square invite you to take a cosy break.
