Tirolerkogel from Annaberg via Ebenbaueralm

Closed
Alternative ascent to the normal route via the Ebenbaueralm.Basic skiing skills are required for the ski tour.
The Tirolerkogel is one of the most visited peaks of the Türnitzer Alps because of the easy accessibility, the avalanche safety on the normal route and the possibility of a stop at the summit.

Described here is not the normal ascent via the forest road but the path that follows the cross-country ski trail from the Gscheid directly west to the Ebenbaueralm pasture. From here it goes in a big loop around the Lindkogel to the north on free slopes directly to the summit of the Tirolerkogel. The newly built Annaberger Haus standing at the summit is clearly visible as a target to be aimed at.

More information

Coming from Mariazell on the B20 to Annaberg
The first part of the tour is described according to the different entry points:

1) From the parking lot Pfarrbodenlift up the first ski slope, leave the slope to the left and follow the path to the youth hostel.

2) From here the trail continues across meadows and crosses the main road at a bend (small parking lot here). Continue across meadows up to the saddle and crossroads "Am Gscheid "d (1020 m).

3) From the parking lot in front of Annaberg follow the trail on the other side of the road directly to the saddle "Am Gscheid" (1020 m).

Looking west from the Gscheid, you can see the normal route to the Tirolerkogel on the left; on the right, descending slightly, the trail continues in the direction of the Walsterursprung. Follow this in the ditch mostly slightly descending and leave the lope to the left at the Ebenbaueralm junction. Now you come out of the forest and are on the alpine pasture of the Ebenbauer Alm. While the course of the trail until now went through wooded ditches, from here on it only goes over free slopes to the north in a loop past the Lindkogel to the east. After the hollow at Lindkogel follows the last climb directly to the summit, the Annabergerhaus mostly in sight.

The normal descent would be via summit slope and forest road, described here is the descent on the ascent path. Down to the Ebenbaueralm with a nice gradient. Then climb again on the slightly uphill trail to the Gscheid. Continue straight ahead following the cross-country ski trail to the Pakplatz before Annaberg or down to the right if you have parked your car at the Jugendheim or at the Pfarrboden valley station.
