Mariazell Eye Views: Sigmundsberg
Hike from Mariazell to the Sigmundsberg in Rasing.
The Sigmundsberg Chapel stands on the site of an old fortification that controlled the approach to Mariazell. The church was built in 1471, destroyed soon afterwards and rebuilt in 1501 as a single-nave Gothic mountain church with two bays and a 5/8 choir. The hexagonal wooden ridge turret and the roof are from more recent times. The altarpiece from 1761 depicts Maria lactans on the crescent moon. The chapel temporarily housed the statue of the Virgin after the fire of 1827.
The chapel is closed, the key can be obtained from the office of the Superiorate.
The Sigmundsberg is one of the top 10 Mariazeller AUGENblicken: Treat yourself to your personal time-out and enjoy the unique panorama at the vantage points of the Mariazeller AUGENblicke. There is time to catch your breath and let your gaze wander into the distance on the panoramic spots of Mariazell Land.

JUFA Hotel on an asphalt road. In front of the JUFA we branch off to the left onto a forest trail, on which it is a bit steeper up to the chapel on the summit of the Sigmundsberg.
