3er-Way (Eichbergrunde; Way 3)

Half-day tour that offers beautiful views of both the Wölzertal and the Katschtal.
A demanding tour due to its length, but very scenic. Since this route also runs in the sun for long stretches, you should set off early in the morning.

More information

Coming from Judenburg (S 36) on the federal highway B 317 (Friesacher Straße) to Scheifling, B 96 (Murtalstraße) to Niederwölz, B 75 (Glattjochbundesstraße) to Oberwölz.

From Tamsweg on the B 97 (Murauerstraße) to Murau, to Niederwölz B 96 (Murtalstraße), B75 (Glattjochbundesstraße) to Oberwölz.

From the information center opposite the town parish church, follow the signs to the leisure center (note: turn left in the Hintereggertor, along the town wall!).

Continue towards the sports field. Directly behind the training area you enter the area of the high ropes course. Keep right in the climb area. Via the botanical nature trail you reach a forest road, which you follow to the right. Before leaving the forest, turn left onto a path that forks after about 30 m.

Follow the signs “3er-Weg”. After the “Maierhäusl” you continue straight ahead and after a few meters you will see a small meadow. Before entering, you have to keep left and follow a slightly ascending path into the forest. You soon reach the GH Kammersberger, cross the state road and follow a forest path to the west. The forest path turns into a forest path and then again into a forest path that leads out of the forest. You can now see Mainhardsdorf on the right in the valley floor. In the first bend towards Mainhardsdorf you leave this path to the left into the forest (marked). Along the edge of the forest, but soon uphill through the forest, you come across a forest path. Follow this to the right (west) to the Leitner family homestead vlg. “Griller”, goes through the property and follows the access road westwards. After about 1 km, at the intersection, follow the road to the left and uphill. You reach a free hill, the “Mühltratte”. At this intersection, turn left and follow the “3-er Weg”. You reach the Wohleser farm cf. “Alger.” After the farmstead, follow the path further uphill and reach the forest. At the first fork to the left and at the next to the right, after another ¾ km, leave the forest path to the left and follow the forest path further uphill (marked): You reach the Eichberg. Here a branch path branches off to the right to the so-called “Pfingstlacke”.

From this junction follow the marked path downhill. As you leave the forest you reach the forest road, cross it and continue across the meadow to the farmstead. “Fresner.” The path now leads directly to Hinterburg.

You can be picked up here or walk along hiking trail 2 (“Moar im Egg-Runde” in the direction of Oberwölz) or hiking trail 8 (“Hinterburg–Moar im Egg” in the direction of Moar im Egg) back to Oberwölz. A third option would be to follow the road to Oberwölz.
