Circular hiking trail to the AuErlebnisweg in St.Peter ob Judenburg

A circular hike in the municipality of St. Peter ob Judenburg with a detour to the local recreation area of the Mur. Leisurely hike along the wide valley floor of the Mur with barbecue facilities.
The beautiful and interesting thing about this circular hike is that you hike along the wide valley floor of the Mur and encounter different landscapes. You are close to the town of Judenburg, walking more or less on level ground and getting to know not only the populated areas of Rothenthurm, Furth and St. Peter ob Judenburg with the adjoining farmland and meadows, but also the idyllic local recreation area by the Mur. The floodplain landscape is a valuable habitat for a variety of plants and animals and an important retention area for the flood waters of the Mur. The Floodplain Experience Trail draws attention to these topics with clear information boards. Also worth mentioning is the publicly accessible barbecue and rest area by the Mur, which was built by the local Landjugend. This area is equipped with benches and a brick barbecue. The wood can be collected nearby and then nothing stands in the way of a cozy barbecue afternoon. It is important to leave the area and the fire pit clean and to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished.

More information

From Judenburg via the B317 (4 km, approx. 6 minutes)

From Murau via the B96 and B317 (42 km, approx. 30 minutes)

We start at the parking lot next to the fire station in Rothenthurm (1), 742 m. An asphalt road leads slightly downhill through the populated area, through the underpass of the road, until after approx. 700 meters, in a right-hand bend, we turn left onto the meadow path. Across the meadows we reach the bank above the Mur. We keep heading upstream and after a while we descend a few meters in serpentines and reach the wide valley floor. We continue across meadows on a wide cart track until we reach the busy B 114 main road and cross it. Continuing straight ahead, we reach the start of the AuErlebnisWeges "Schau die Au" trail. For the next 1.6 kilometers, we hike leisurely along a wide gravel road, passing several information boards and comfortable rest areas before turning back at the publicly accessible barbecue and rest area (2), 699 m. We follow the path back to the start of the adventure trail, keep right and reach the beginning of Furth. Then we come to the blacksmith museum (3), 720 m, past and to the crossroads at the Stocker inn. The footpath on the left leads directly past the inn and then through the underpass of the highway. After the underpass, turn right immediately, then walk a short distance parallel to the main road and turn left. Passing the village sign for St. Peter ob Judenburg, we walk slightly uphill through the populated area towards the village center. We can already see the church of St. Peter ahead of us. The hiking trail leads to the left before the village center (4), 737 m, over the Möschitzbach and continues along the asphalt road across meadows and farmland back towards Rothenthurm. At the Mitterdorf crossroads, we keep right uphill and a little later left. We follow the asphalt road straight ahead and come to Rothenthurm, where we turn left and return to our starting point.
There is a freely accessible barbecue and rest area near the Mur, which is equipped with benches and a brick barbecue.
By train to Judenburg and bus to Rothenthurm.
