Ennsradweg - 4th day stage

This stage on the Enns bike path leads us from Admont at the entrance to the Gesaeuse and world-famous through the Abbey Library, through the Gesaeuse National Park to Weyer in Upper Austria with its beautiful market square.

In Weng in the Gesäuse we stand directly at the Gesäuse entrance. Unbelievable: On a length of about one kilometre the Enns falls over a waterfall of 50 metres into the depth and then squeezes 20 kilometres through the narrow gorges between the Buchstein group and the Hochtorg group.

Our tour continues via Hieflau and Großreifling, past the Wasserspielpark Eisenwurzen to St. Gallen with its Gallenstein Castle to Altenmarkt. Gallenstein Castle, formerly the administrative seat of Admont Abbey, is now a well-known venue after a great deal of renovation work. Among other things, the famous festival takes place here every year. But a side trip is also worthwhile in other respects: the castle tavern attracts visitors with its delicious delicacies. From Altenmarkt it goes across the Styrian/Upper Austrian border to the village of Weyer.

Please note that the route on a section of this stage (in the Geäuse area) is along the road and therefore also a "piggyback" transport by public transport is offered. Especially if you are travelling with small children, this section is not advisable - please note the information under the heading "Safety instructions"!

More information

Coming from Liezen, we turn left in Admont into the center - in the center of geht´s then right to Eichelau - the cycle path brings us to just before Weng. Here you have the choice: Either you drive through the scenic national park "Gesäuse" with excursion possibilities to Johnsbach or Eisenerz, but have to expect quite heavy traffic here from Hieflau. In Großreifling we turn left and reach the beautiful town of St. Gallen via Erbsattel. At Altenmarkt, a few kilometres after St. Gallen, we again encounter the variant that leads from Großreifling over the Eisen Bundesstraße. Quite comfortable, but along the main road, we continue through the beautiful landscape of the Reichraminger Hintergebirge to Weyer.
