Joglland Loipe Sankt Jakob im Walde - Hiking trail, St. Jakob im Walde

On the Joglland cross-country ski trail in St. Jakob im Walde, which has been awarded the Styrian cross-country ski trail seal of approval, freshly groomed trails and perfect trail conditions await you every day.
When people talk about cross-country skiing at the highest level, they mean Joglland. A magnificent mountain landscape awaits us on the sunny high plateau above the idyllic village of St. Jakob im Walde in the Joglland - Waldheimat region at around 1,134 meters above sea level. Here you can enjoy a fairytale winter wonderland at the foot of the Hochwechsel with views of the Stuhleck, the highest peak in the Fischbach Alps, and Peter Rosegger's Waldheimat.

The cross-country ski trail network with over 60 km of perfectly groomed trails for classic style and skating is just one of the highlights of the Joglland cross-country skiing center.

The snowmaking system and snowfarming (snow is produced in late winter, covered with sawdust and cooled so that the snow can be spread at the start of winter) ensure guaranteed snow.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays - from 18:00 - 21:00 - the floodlights provide an additional special nature and cross-country skiing experience on around 4 kilometers.

More information

Further information on how to get here: Gasthof Orthofer
  • We start the almost 10-kilometer-long Joglland trail, which gives the entire trail network in St. Jakob im Walde its name, in the start/finish area behind Gasthof Orthofer
  • The trail has also been awarded the Styrian cross-country ski trail seal of approval and guarantees the highest quality!

  • We stick to the red signs on our loop. At the beginning, we leave the start and finish area of the cross-country skiing center past the snowmaking pond and now follow the beautifully groomed trail through the romantic forest landscape with some straight sections and occasional bends over the so-called “Blochplatz” to the Riegler Kohlstatt crossroads, where we continue straight ahead to the Fütterung crossroads.
  • Here we keep to the right to reach the highest point of the trail, the Ochsenkopf, after just over 3 km
  • The idyllic rest area invites you to take a break
  • Here it is also a good opportunity to see if we can spot one or two skiers on the St. Jakob im Walde family ski mountain
  • After the long ascent, we can now recover well before we come to the striking turn, which takes us back towards the start and finish
  • Immediately after the turnaround, we have a wonderful view of the Stuhleck, which we can enjoy on a short descent
  • We try to gain some momentum from this descent for the next ascent, which takes us back to the Fütterung junction
  • Here we branch off to the right and then keep right again after about 400 meters
  • After a short ascent, we reach the so-called Blochplatz again, where we turn right into a short descent
  • We then pass the site of the summer snow depot (snow farming) and master one last tight bend before arriving back at the cross-country ski center, the central starting point for the entire network of trails
  • After this wonderful cross-country skiing tour, we have probably earned a stop at Gasthof Orthofer
The "Learn cross-country skiing or skating in 6 hours" or "Lady Days" packages are particularly popular. Tip: Test your skills in the laser biathlon!
