St. Andrä - Höcher Round No. 21

Open
An ambitious hike with many adventure points, such as the largest Klapotetz, the forest and wildlife trail and the butterfly meadow.
The first historical reference to the Sausal dates back to 977, when the forest "Susil" became the property of the Archbishopric of Salzburg.of the Archbishopric of Salzburg. Farmers cleared the forest through generations of hard work, drained the swampy valleys and ditches and planted vines on the bare, sunny mountain slopes.sunny mountain slopes. Sausal place names such as Reith, Greith, Neurath, Neudorf still remind us of this today.

More information

Coming from the south, north, west and east on the A9 Phyrnautobahn - exit Leibnitz - continue towards Kaindorf/S - Heimschuh - Kitzeck - St. Andrä/Höch.
"Hike over the 3 hills with a wonderful panoramic view. The St. Andrä-Höcher loop begins in the centre of Sankt Andrä im Sausal and leads first along the municipal paths and finally through the forest hiking trail past the red deer enclosure into the Brünngraben (328m). Via Schmalegg you pass the largest Klapotetz to the baroque Harrachegg Castle with the Sausal wine and culture cellar. From there, the forest and game nature trail first leads to the Hubertus Grotto, then you follow the path out of the forest along the educational wine hiking trail, which shows different traditional wine-growing cultures, up to the world's largest Klapotetz at Kalkriegl. Via the Jägersteig (hunter's path) you finally reach the lookout point on the Demmerkogel (671 m), the highest point of the circular trail (the lookout point unfortunately burnt down, reconstruction is planned). From there the hiking trail leads across the butterfly meadow on municipal paths to the second viewing hill to Hochbrudersegg. Via Mitterberg you reach Brünngraben, passing numerous wine taverns, and from there the route leads back to the starting point via Hofholz and Reith on municipal paths without major differences in altitude.

Variant 21a: Small St. Andrä Round. Variant 21a offers the possibility of shortening the circular hiking trail with starting point St. Andrä im Sausal to half of the main trail without major differences in altitude. (See tour St. Andrä-Höcher Round No. 21).

Enjoy the view at the big Klapotetz.
