The Great Jogl - Stage 4: Wenigzell - Vorau: Variant 2, Wenigzell

Open
On the fourth and final stage of the mountain bike tour "Der große Jogl", you have to complete another 32 kilometers (variant 2) - from Wenigzell via Wildwiese and Masenberg back to Vorau.
On the route from Wenigzell to Vorau, there are a few more ascents to beautiful peaks and viewpoints in the Joglland - Waldheimat region. First you ride up to the Wildwiese with the striking lookout point and the popular Wildwiesenhütte (variant 2) and then up to the Masenberg with the Olmstoll and the Glückskapelle. After these viewpoints and adventure points, you return to the starting point of the "Der große Jogl" tour - the market town of Vorau - after a good seven hours.

A special service along the "Der große Jogl" tour is the luggage transport - simply cycle carefree, without any annoying extra luggage. While you are on the road, your luggage will be taken to your next stage destination (by 5 p.m. at the latest).

Route planner for your journey

The following stage layout is just one of many possible variations.

We start our 4th day stage of the MTB tour "Der große Jogl" in Wenigzell. We ride past the church to the Joglland Oasis, then immediately turn right, past the mini golf course and arrive at the Wenigzell local history museum. Here we keep right and follow the gravel path. A slight uphill section begins at the end of the forest. We pass the Bergler Stub'n inn and continue to the well-known crossroads, the Toten Mann. Various legends surround this wayside shrine, for example that a pilgrim to Mariazell died here.

There are now various options at the Toter Mann crossroads. Cyclists who would like to explore the village of Miesenbach and the Trail Land follow the signs to Miesenbach (option 1).

However, the tour from the Toter Mann now leads us on to the Wildwiese, with its lookout point and the popular Wildwiesenhütte run by the Weber family. We continue to follow the markings until we rejoin the route shared by the two variants at the former Kreuzwirt inn.

At the former inn, we turn right and then keep right again. We turn into a wooded area and stay on this mostly flat road for around two kilometers. After a wayside shrine on the left, we turn right and pass several farms and Christmas tree plantations. Keep left at the next crossroads in a wooded area. The ascent to the summit of the Masenberg now begins. On the way back, we pass the Olmstoll and then the Glückskapelle chapel. We return along almost the same route.

The tour now continues in the direction of Puchegg, a district of Vorau, where we can take a break at the Gasthof Erzherzog Johann Höhe. On the so-called Erzherzog Johann Höhe, just a few meters away, we can also enjoy the magnificent view of the region. From here, it is only around two kilometers to our original starting point and now our destination, Vorau Abbey.

The wild meadow is a particular highlight and vantage point. From the lookout point, you have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. The Wildwiesenhütte invites you to linger and relax.
Timetables and travel information can be found at Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB) or at Verkehrsauskunft Verbundlinie. For local transportation we recommend the SAM-Sammeltaxi Oststeiermark.
