Tockneralm

Closed
Simple but very promising tour. The downhill slopes are very extensive and offer great variations. The Tockneralpe is therefore an ideal ski mountain.
Beautiful and particularly sunny ski tour that offers wonderful descents, especially near firn. Although easy and frequently visited, the Tockneralm should not be underestimated. The southern gully can certainly contain dangerous snow slabs. From Klausen, take the marked summer path northwards across meadows towards the Tocknerhütte (1,803 m). After a climb of around 200 m, continue in a north-easterly direction through the increasingly thin forest. Across the wide southern slopes to the back of the high field and then northwest to the pre-summit (2,304 m) of the Tockneralm. Over the ridge you finally reach the main summit in 15 minutes.

More information

East: From Vienna on the A 2 and S 6 to Leoben and St. Michael i. d. E., continue on the S 36 to Judenburg and on the B 96 to Murau. From Murau via Ranten to Krakau. From Graz on the A 9 to St. Michael i. d. O.. Further see above.

West, North: From Bregenz/Innsbruck via the A 12, A 93 and A 8 to Salzburg. From Salzburg on the A 10 to St. Michael im Lungau. From here on the B 96 to Tamsweg and further towards Murau via Sauerfeld to Krakau.

South: From Klagenfurt on the B 83 to Scheifling. Then take the B 96 to Murau and on to Krakau.

From Klausen directly north through the forest. The ascent path usually runs up a straight line, with one or two steep steps in the forest having to be mastered. In all cases, these can always be dealt with without any problems. The forest becomes thinner and thinner, and as soon as you leave it, you head in a slight right curve towards the free N ridge of the high field. Shortly before the cross to the NW and you can easily reach the "official" summit cross of the Tockneralpe. However, this is not at the highest point. To do this, you have to descend a few meters into a hollow and climb up again in somewhat rockier terrain to reach the highest point with a simple wooden pole.

DepartureAlong the ascent route or from the highest point a short distance to the west, then through the wide gully to the Tocknerhütte or back to the cross, from there the free slopes to the SW to the Tocknerhütte. In any case, you have to cross from the Tocknerhütte on a forest road to the E or SE in order to get back to the ascent track.
