Thermal bath trail (Thermenradweg)

Open
Cycling like in PaRADies - from one thermal spa to the next. A pleasure tour from spa to spa in the thermal and volcanic country of Styria - cycling can hardly be more beautiful.
Cycling pleasure and thermal spa fun

The Thermenradweg is probably one of the most impressive cycling routes in Styria: it runs for almost 150 km along EuroVelo 9 from the Hochwechsel at the Lower Austrian-Styrian border over numerous chains of hills, past the Styrian thermal springs in the thermal and volcanic region of Styria to the River Mur near Bad Radkersburg.

The Thermenradweg is also a journey to culinary paradise: Styrian specialties and Buschenschänken, the famous pumpkin seed oil, pumpkin specialties and in autumn storm and chestnuts and much more are waiting to be tasted.

More information

All information on how to get to Thermen- und Vulkanland Steiermark can be found here.
Pleasure cycling, time to live.

You start in the north at the state border in the idyllic village of Mönichkirchen and cycle in the middle of "healthy country life": lush forests, fresh air, wonderful views and friendly people meet you on the ride from the Hochwechsel in the direction of Pinggau, Friedberg, Dechantskirchen past the district capital Hartberg. Here it is worth taking a detour in the direction of the "Rome of Eastern Styria" and on to the Pöllau Valley.

The thermal cycle path leads you further via St. Johann/Haide, along the ridge you approach the actual Thermenland Steiermark. From far away you will see the first two thermal spas - the H20 Therme Sebersdorf, the "youngest" thermal spa in Thermenland Steiermark and the Heiltherme Bad Waltersdorf.

Time to cycle

Further on, the R12 takes you past the Burgau moated castle to the largest habitable total work of art, the Rogner Bad Blumau.

Passing the 1.000-year-old oak tree in the spa community of Bad Blumau, you cross the border river Lafnitz and arrive via Deutsch-Kaltenbrunn and Speltenbach in the "spa capital Fürstenfeld", which awaits you with the Pfeilburg, the largest open-air swimming pool in Europe, excellent inner-city gastronomy and great shopping opportunities.

After the golf course Loipersdorf the next and "liveliest" of all thermal spas is already waiting for you - the thermal spa Loipersdorf.

From Loipersdorf you will cross a ridge into the Raab Valley, where the thermal spa cycle path and the well-known and popular family cycle path Raabtalradweg R11 meet for a "rendezvous" in the Raab floodplains.

However, you continue south, past shady forests, wide fields, graceful vineyards along the Burgenland-Styrian border to St. Anna am Aigen, where the Vinothek Styria has the best "Tröpferln" of Styria ready for you to taste. The view over the entire region to Slovenia and the Hungarian lowlands is also simply stunning.

From St. Anna am Aigen you now descend to the Kutschenica, the delicate little border stream between Styria and Slovenia. Once more the thermal cycle path leads you to the ridge near Deutsch-Haseldorf in the wine region Klöch, before it only goes downhill towards the southern-looking town of Bad Radkersburg: the destination of the R12. Here, the historic old town, the hot springs of the Parktherme, the Mura meadows and the proximity to the Slovenian neighbor invite you to linger and "Boundless Cycling".

A visit to the Vinothek Styria in St. Anna am Aigen is an unforgettable experience. Oh yes, and of course don't forget your swimming trunks!
