COLORFUL AUTUMN

It's almost autumn - at least according to the calendar. But it is often the last warm days of late summer that bathe the city in a magical light. This is when the romantic courtyards and cosy guest gardens become even more inviting.

Exercise is good for us, we all feel it. The soul rejoices in the bright colours of autumn and the warm rays of sunshine that still pamper us. Bike & hike tours are particularly enjoyable now. They combine cycling and hiking and give us completely new perspectives.

a must-see!

Although there is a lot going on and Austria's second-largest city can boast all kinds of titles, such as UNESCO World Heritage Site for the city centre and Eggenberg Palace, City of Design and Austria's capital of Delight, you can always sense a special cosiness and relaxed serenity here. The Hebalm, Gleinalm, Stubalm, Pack and the Schöckl are just outside the city gates and are alluring in their colourful autumn colours.

event tips

Graz is known for diversity and contrasts - this applies not only to architecture, but also to music, culture and events. At ‘Klanglicht’, impressive light and sound installations enchant the entire city and the audience. Every year since 1968, ‘steirischer herbst’, an interdisciplinary festival for contemporary art, has brought together visual art, performance, theatre, opera, music and literature. In the beautiful Stefaniensaal, the Haydn Festival is dedicated to the music of the famous Austrian composer. After the summer break, Graz's theatres, such as the opera and the Schauspielhaus, start the new season. Tradition and customs can be felt everywhere in the Graz Region - be it at the Aufsteirern festival, the Lipizzaner cattle drive or an adventure day in Stübing.

The special scent in autumn

Graz serves up a feast

It is no coincidence that Graz is the only city in Austria to hold the title of ‘Capital of Delight’. Here you will find restaurateurs who are true hosts and chefs who conjure up true masterpieces on your plate using fresh regional ingredients. Culinary events and guided city tours - whether on foot or in a convertible bus - make the city a paradise for gourmets.

As soon as the familiar smell of chestnuts wafts through the streets, you know that autumn has arrived. But at the end of October, there is another, very special scent in the air: at the International Truffle Festival in Graz's Paradeishof, everything revolves around the noble tuber. Did you know that truffles grow in the forests around Graz? On guided truffle hikes, accompanied by specially trained sniffer dogs, you can even go in search of the rare treasure yourself.
