Chamber Music Concert: Querfeldein

To kick off this year's Advent concerts, renowned pianist Paul Gulda invites you to a musical ‘winter journey’ at Rein Abbey. With works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Leoš Janáček, Gulda takes the audience on a varied journey through the history of piano music - from Bach's well-tempered works to Beethoven's sonata-like clarity and Janáček's rarely performed, poetic piano pieces.

Gulda opens the programme with selected preludes and fugues from Bach's ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’, followed by Beethoven's Piano Sonatas No. 10 and No. 9, which enchant the audience with their lively and dance-like character. After a break, the pianist leads into an introspective world of sound with Janáček's collection ‘Auf verwachsenem Pfade’. These ten short pieces take the audience on a symbolic journey - sometimes calm, sometimes melancholic and deeply moving.
