This year, the Office for Christmas Carols will open its doors for the 31st time in succession. During the Advent of 1991, this service point was established by the Styrian Center for Folk Music with a view to offering the necessary support to those who wished to start singing again and were in search of Christmas carols, stories and poems.
The Office for Christmas Carols has become an integral part of Advent in the inner city of Graz and a popular meeting point for those who wish to start singing again. Throughout the Christmas season, the Office for Christmas Carols operates worldwide, helping everyone along who is at a loss for texts or tunes. It also provides answers to general questions in relation to singing, music-making and Christmas customs. The directory of Christmas music and texts contains around 30,000 entries in total. These range from Christmas songs and sheet music to stories, poems, pastoral plays and nativity plays. In addition to early and modern Alpine folk music, the directory lists foreign-language songs, popular folk music, spirituals, pop songs, and much more.
