A special evening of theatre awaits you in the Graz Region. On 12 March 2025, the comedy ‘Die verfehlte Prüfung’ by Johann Nestroy will premiere in the magnificent Maestoso State Hall.
Programme schedule:
- 19:30: Admission with live music in the Maestoso State Hall and champagne reception
- 20:00: Start of the theatre performance ‘The Missed Examination’
- 20:45: 30-minute break with musical highlight
- 21:15: Second act of the theatre play
- 22:00: End of the event with musical finale
In ‘Die verfehlte Prüfung’, the merchant Mr Frohberg is supposed to help his jealous friend, the hotel owner Adelmann, to test the fidelity of his wife Auguste by trying to seduce her. The house servant Knitsch, proud of his supposed knowledge of French, brags about his amours and mistakenly believes that Auguste is in love with him. When Frohberg's wife Rosa, a friend of Auguste's, arrives and also treats Knitsch down-to-earth, the latter also interprets this as a hidden proof of love. When the two women realise their husbands' plans, they devise a cunning plan of revenge.
Johann Nestroy created a typically Viennese character with numerous comic nuances in the character of the house servant Knitsch, who is convinced that all women are in love with him. Critics at the time said that he had always been a great comedian, but should be awarded a professorship at the Hochschule der Heiterkeit for this work. If you don't learn to laugh, you'll be a curmudgeon for life!
