Round Mondorfer Leiten

The idyllic hike takes us from Mühlen to Mondorf and back to the starting point via forest and gravel paths.
The family-friendly hiking village of Mühlen is located on the southern slope of the Zirbitzkogel, the highest mountain in the Seetal Alps. Archaeological finds from the area of today's Mühlen community prove that people visited this place long before the birth of Christ and perhaps even inhabited it.

More information

By car from GermanyFrom Munich via the A8 towards Salzburg. From Salzburg on the A10 Tauernautobahn to St. Michael im Lungau. On the B 96 to Tamsweg, then on the B 95 to Predlitz. The B 97 leads via Stadl/Mur to Murau. There at the roundabout towards St. Lambrecht to Murauer train station and further towards St. Lambrecht. Via Laßnitz near Murau you reach St. Lambrecht, which is already in the nature park. Continue towards Mariahof, then to Neumarkt, after Neumarkt and St. Marein turn left towards Mühlen. Follow the main road, then turn left to Mühlen to the town center.

Arrival from Eastern Austria/HungaryAt the motorway junction in St. Michael near Leoben, take the S 36 towards Klagenfurt. Past Knittelfeld and Judenburg to Scheifling. In Scheifling continue towards Klagenfurt to Neumarkt, via Unzmarkt and Perchau am Sattel you reach Neumarkt. Drive through Neumarkt and St. Marein, then turn left towards Mühlen. Follow the main road, then turn left to Mühlen to the town center.

Arrival from southern Austria/ItalyVia Klagenfurt on the S 37 past St. Veit/Glan, Treibach and Friesach. In Friesach continue towards Vienna, via Dürnstein and Wildbad towards Neumarkt. After the gorge and just before St. Marein, turn right towards Mühlen. Follow the main road, then turn left to Mühlen.

From the center of Mühlen, walk along Kastanienallee for approx. 100 m towards the SE. You pass the Rochus Chapel and walk along the Hangarin path, mostly through dense forest, slightly climbing up to the municipal road leading to Noreia. On the slightly rising, asphalted road you come to the turnoff to Mondorf. (In Mondorf the GH Steiner invites you to stop off. We reach the road leading to Noreia via a mountain path.)

Follow the municipal road, which is now flat, until you reach the fork in Noreia-Weg 4a or Weg 4. Follow marker 4 on the slightly ascending road and after about 2 km you will reach the Bärnthaler farm, which invites you to take a break. Follow the road, which continues to climb slightly, to the fork of the Grain access road (over the bridge) and path 4 in Graben. The "4er" path now runs as a gravelled forest path further towards the N, always slightly climbing, past the "Retzn-Brünndl" to a gorge-like narrow section.

Follow marker 4 on the now flat forest path to the north until, after a small stream, it meets a forest path coming up at a right angle from the left. To the left (W) we follow the sloping, marked forest path (4) to the fork in paths 3 and 4 (access to the Schnedl farm) and continue along the gently sloping, gravel road to the intersection of paths 3 and 4 with path 5 at the house Egger.

Turn right and follow the gently sloping road until it meets Noreia Street at the junction to Greith. On the gently sloping, asphalted municipal road you turn right back to the starting point in Mühlen.
