Speikkogel vom Gelingraben

"The borderline genius":
The varied ascent leads through dense forests and across wide alpine meadows, accompanied by impressive views of the surrounding peaks. Once you reach the Speikkogel, a breathtaking panorama awaits you, which more than rewards the effort of the ascent and allows you to look far over the edge of the Murtal. This hike not only offers enjoyment of nature, but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the mountains away from everyday life - a perfect excursion for anyone looking to slow down.

Highlight: summit cross
This hike takes us from the Stanglhütte in the Gleingraben to the Speikkogel and offers a variety of landscapes, from dense forests to wide alpine meadows. The ascent is challenging, but rewards us with impressive views of the Mur Valley and the surrounding peaks. After a hike of around three hours, we reach the Gleinalm refuge, where we can fortify ourselves before tackling the ascent to the summit of the Speikkogel (1,988 m). A breathtaking panorama awaits us at the summit, which extends far beyond the Mur Valley and more than makes up for the effort of the ascent. This tour is ideal for hikers who are looking for a mixture of sporting challenge and nature experience and want to enjoy the tranquillity of the mountains.

We start our hike at the Stanglhütte in Gleingraben. First we follow a wide forest path that leads us into the valley towards Gleinalmsattel. After around 2.5 to 3 hours, we reach the Gleinalm refuge, where we can take a well-earned break. Here we have a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. From the refuge, we continue along the southern ridge. The ascent to the Speikkogel is challenging, as we have to overcome several hills before we finally reach the summit cross. However, the effort is rewarded by the breathtaking view. We then make our way back to the Stanglhütte along the same route.

A few tips for correct and fair behavior in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at  6/2021)
  • Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wildlife is especially active during this time.
  • Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts & Co have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any trash in the forest.
  • Camping and making fire - is strictly forbidden in the forest!
  • In principle, each person is allowed to collect 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use in the forest. It is only forbidden if the forest owner expressly forbids it.
